Congressman Horsford joined local environmental, justice, and union leaders to highlight bold investments that put Nevadans back to work in good-paying union jobs that help reach critical climate goals
LAS VEGAS — Today, Congressman Horsford (NV-4) joined local leaders from Nevada Conservation League, Chispa Nevada, Climate Action NV, For Our Future, Native Voters Alliance Nevada, CHR Inc., Make It Work Nevada, One APIA Nevada, and IBEW Local 357 for a virtual roundtable to discuss bold critical components of the federal bipartisan infrastructure bill that will invest in an economy built for Nevada’s future.
Congressman Horsford provided an overview of the infrastructure package and spoke to the need to put Nevadans back to work in good-paying, clean energy union jobs to rebuild our communities and as a pathway to help us reach critical climate goals. Community leaders emphasized the necessary groundwork that must be done in tandem with organizations to re-skill a new workforce and ensure job opportunities reach all communities.

“As the House of Representatives works to pass the bipartisan infrastructure bill, building back better for Nevada is my top priority. This legislation presents a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to invest in our workers and the environment, and we must make sure that every community has a voice in our progress,” said Congressman Steven Horsford. “During today’s roundtable, I was glad to hear from constituents and local leaders about how Congress can make progress to support working families and stop climate change. I’m grateful to the Nevada Conservation League for hosting this discussion, and I look forward to ongoing discussions about jobs and justice throughout the Silver State.”
“With record-breaking heat waves, devastating wildfires, air pollution, and drought sweeping across Nevada, it is clear we have no time to lose in taking climate action at the scale that science and justice require,” said Nevada Conservation League Organizing Manager Andrew Sierra. “The bipartisan infrastructure package is Congress’ chance to go bolder to make transformative investments that protect our communities from further climate devastation, rebuild our neighborhoods with resilient infrastructure, and restore our economy with good-paying clean energy jobs right here at home.”
Last week, the U.S. Senate passed a $1 trillion bipartisan infrastructure plan and made progress towards a $3.5 trillion reconciliation package that will soon move to the House for approval. This discussion takes place after the release of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report on the climate crisis, which reiterated the dire situation that our planet is facing and underscored the need for global action on climate at the scale that science and justice require.
A poll released in early June sponsored by Earthjustice, Environment America, and Sierra Club Toiyabe Chapter found Nevada voters across party lines in Congressional Districts 3 and 4 rate climate provisions of infrastructure plan highly. According to the survey:
- 69% of voters in the 3rd District and 67% of voters in the 4th District support addressing the challenge of climate change by shifting to greater use of clean energy, reducing carbon pollution from vehicles and industry, and making homes and buildings more energy efficient.
- 70% of voters in the 3rd and 4th Districts support investments in clean energy such as wind and solar power by extending tax credits to spur innovation and manufacturing.
- 64% of voters in the 3rd District and 61% of voters in the 4th District support investments in electric vehicles and charging stations to reduce pollution and help more Americans buy clean cars.
