Nevada Conservation League applauds Governor Lombardo and Nevada Legislature for coming together to clean up the state’s roadways
CARSON CITY, NV – On June 9, Governor Joe Lombardo signed Assembly Bill 184, creating the Nevada Clean Trucks and Buses Incentive Program, into law. Sponsored by Assemblyman Howard Watts, the law is designed to accelerate the adoption of medium- and heavy-duty electric trucks, buses, delivery vans, and more among small businesses, public agencies, and school districts.
The Nevada Clean Trucks and Buses Incentive Program received overwhelming bipartisan support because it leverages federal funds coming to Nevada thanks to the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and Inflation Reduction Act. The program will help get more clean trucks and buses on the road, which is particularly important for communities in crowded urban areas, low-income communities, and communities of color which are exposed to higher levels of traffic from these vehicles.
“Gasoline- and diesel-powered vehicles produce many pollutants, including particulate matter, ozone, and carbon dioxide. These tailpipe emissions are harmful to our health and climate, said Nevada Conservation League’s Deputy Director Christi Cabrera-Georgeson. “By signing this forward-thinking law, Governor Lombardo is supporting Nevada’s small businesses and public fleets in the transition to clean, electric vehicles, saving them money while also helping to clean up the air and improve public health.”
Additionally, Assembly Bill 262, also sponsored by Assemblyman Watts, was signed by Governor Lombardo on June 5. Known as the Clean Fleets law, the policy will help state agencies improve local air quality by adding more electric and hybrid vehicles to their fleets. This will save the state and taxpayers millions of dollars on out-of-state gasoline and diesel fuels, as well as lower long-term operating and maintenance costs.
Both laws will make significant contributions toward cleaning up Nevada’s transportation sector and reducing air pollution while saving money and supporting the state’s clean technology sector.
