HENDERSON, Nevada — Yesterday, Representative Dina Titus (NV-1) joined the Nevada Conservation League, For Our Future NV, Climate Power, EmployNV Business Hub, Nevada Clean Energy Fund, and 19 employers for a Clean Energy Career Fair. On the heels of Labor Day and amidst the backdrop of historic federal investments from the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) and Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) powering Nevada’s clean energy landscape, this event connected job seekers with industry leaders and highlighted diverse and rewarding pathways available in the clean energy economy. A list of participating employers can be found below.

“The Clean Energy Plan, a component of the [Inflation Reduction Act], is the biggest investment in the environment ever made in history — $14.5 billion […] in clean energy investments have come to Nevada, ” said Congresswoman Dina Titus. “It’s already creating 20,000 jobs, and another 40,000 jobs are anticipated over the next decade. We’re putting people to work; we’re doing well by doing good.

“This career fair is evidence of the Biden-Harris Clean Energy Plan at work,” said Jarrett Clark, Communications Director at For Our Future Nevada. After decades of factory closures and job loss, construction spending for manufacturing has reached its highest level in 60 years. In our state, that couldn’t be more evident. Companies that build batteries, solar panel components, and clean tech equipment; they’re racing to set up shop here. We’re moving away from the polluting, high-cost energy of the past to clean, affordable energy like solar, wind, and geothermal — all of which is made right here at home.”

“The Clean Energy Plan is a historic commitment to a healthier environment, a stronger economy, and a better quality of life for all Nevadans,” said Camalot Todd, Communications Director at the Nevada Conservation League. “Look, I know policy can be wonky, so let’s bring this down to kitchen table conversations. Let’s bring it down to Nevadans figuring out what car to drive so they get to work or school on time, [or] how do they pay for these record high energy bills? The Clean Energy Plan has those answers because it saves Nevadans money. It helps make adopting clean energy tech like heat pumps, solar panels, and EVs accessible to everyday Nevadans. That $7,500  you got off at the dealership when you bought your new EV? That’s the Clean Energy Plan. Those tax incentives when you wanted to install solar? That’s the Clean Energy Plan. Those tens of thousands of good-paying jobs that help put food on your kitchen table? That was the Clean Energy Plan.”

“These kinds of investments make jobs, but they also make communities better, and we’re really excited to be a part of that,” said Krystal Hosmer, Senior Solar Consultant at Robco Electric. “We’re working hard every day to bring clean jobs to Nevada. And these are good-paying jobs. These are jobs people can raise families on. They can come home and tuck their kids in every night and be proud. They’re up on the rooftops, making life better for Nevadans.”

“Today, as we are focused on the clean energy industry, we are reminded of the critical role that education and colleges play in driving economic growth and sustainability,” said Dr. Rebecca Gates,  Interim Associate Vice President and Officer in Charge, College of Southern Nevada, Henderson Campus. “The clean energy industry is expanding, and it is transforming the way we think about our economy and our environment. And CSN is prepared to transform with it. Thanks to the Biden-Harris Clean Energy Plan, Nevada is at the forefront of this transformation and we have thousands of new jobs being created.”

“The Biden–Harris Clean Energy Plan is bringing many clean energy jobs to Nevada,” said Dr. Jonathan Wright, College of Southern Nevada Director of Career Services. “Just last year, the College of Southern Nevada received a $1.9 million grant from the Biden-Harris Administration to help job-seekers in advanced manufacturers, information technology, professional, scientific, and technical occupations that support renewable energy, transportation, and broadband infrastructure. It’s grants like these directly support our students and graduates.”

“This Career Fair reflects Nevada’s commitment to growing our clean energy economy and providing Nevadans with career opportunities to thrive in this rapidly growing sector,” said Ben Daseler, Chief of Workforce Operations, Department of Employment, Training, and Rehabilitation. “The clean energy revolution is underway, and Nevada is at the forefront.”

“Nevada is a national leader in solar energy, ranking first in the nation for per-capita solar electricity generation. Thanks to Congresswoman Dina Titus and the Biden-Harris administration leadership, NCEF was awarded $156 million in Solar For All [in] grants. This landmark funding represents a significant achievement in our efforts to drive clean energy accessibility and sustainability across Nevada, especially low-income and historically underserved communities, ” said Janette Zambrano, Program Manager, Nevada Clean Energy Fund. “We will also use the funds to provide targeted education, technical assistance, and workforce development opportunities for rural, urban, tribal, and persistent poverty communities here in Nevada.”

The Biden-Harris Clean Energy Plan, comprised of the IRA, IIJA, and CHIPS Act, has created and advanced more than 20,448 clean energy jobs and spurred more than $14.5 billion in investment. This includes jobs in renewable electricity generation, energy storage, energy efficiency, and clean vehicles, many of which don’t require a traditional four-year college degree.

The Clean Energy Plan ensures these jobs offer high wages and robust protections for workers. Labor standards tied to the IRA, which includes prevailing wage and registered apprenticeship requirements, could create 3.9 million new high-quality jobs across the U.S., with Nevada projected to gain over 550,000 positions. These standards ensure that clean energy jobs rival traditional energy sectors like fossil fuels in both pay and job quality, often aligning with union wages, which further solidify these roles as family-sustaining careers.

Clean Energy Plan and its labor standards are contributing to a historic shift. In 2023, the U.S. clean energy sector experienced job growth at more than double the rate of the overall economy, with employment in clean energy rising by 4.2%, compared to a national job growth rate of 2%. This surge was driven by new construction and utility jobs fostered by historic federal investments. Notably, the clean energy sector surpassed the broader energy industry in unionization rates for the first time ever, reflecting the sector’s commitment to workers’ rights and job stability.

As the most significant U.S. investment in clean energy and climate in history, the Clean Energy Plan will continue to reshape and recharge our economy for decades.
