Rewiring America, Congresswoman Susie Lee, Citizens Climate Lobby, Nevada Conservation League, and Climate Power celebrate Las Vegas Homeowner’s Energy Efficient Home Upgrade Made Possible by the Inflation Reduction Act

Las Vegas, NV –  Today, Tuesday, August 20, Rewiring America, Congresswoman Susie Lee, Citizens Climate Lobby, Nevada Conservation League, and Climate Power unveiled homeowner William Huggins’ energy efficient solar tubes made possible by the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA).

In April of this year, William installed three brand new solar tubes in his Las Vegas home with the help of Sun Cat Skylights. Solar tubes are a cost-effective and energy-efficient way to bring natural light into a home. They capture sunlight through a dome on the roof and channel it through highly reflective tubes into interior spaces, reducing the need for electrical lighting during the day. This simple yet impactful upgrade is just one example of how the IRA is helping homeowners save on energy costs.

This event comes after the U.S. Department of Treasury recently released data on IRA tax credit uptake that shows 3.4 million Americans took advantage of the credits — more than double the federal government’s early projections.  This is the 11th “front porch ribbon cutting” event sponsored by Rewiring America that’s taken place across the country to showcase the impact of the IRA on its second anniversary.

“I helped pass the Inflation Reduction Act to lower costs, create jobs, and deliver investments to southern Nevada communities that are on the front lines of the climate crisis,” said Congresswoman Susie Lee. “This historic law is empowering Nevada families to invest in their homes and their futures by making residential upgrades and long-term savings more accessible. As our state works to build the clean economy of the future, I will continue fighting to ensure that we have the resources needed to thrive.”

“William’s solar tube installations are a great example of how the Inflation Reduction Act is not just policy on paper, but next step solutions and upgrades for households,” said Rewiring America Communications Associate, Yazmyn Pelaez.  “We’re thrilled to see how this transformational law is driving down costs for families, reducing emissions, and bolstering local businesses by creating new opportunities for contractors and service providers.”

“Installing these solar tubes has transformed my home,” said NV homeowner, William Huggins. “Not only am I reducing my family’s carbon footprint, but I’m also saving on electricity bills. Thanks to the IRA, I was able to make this upgrade affordably, and will continue to make energy efficient upgrades in my home these next few months.

“The IRA has made it easier for customers to afford these upgrades by providing substantial tax credits and rebates,” said Sun Cat Skylights Owner and Contractor, Glenn Georgens. “This has allowed us to expand our services, take on more clients, and support the local economy. For business owners and contractors like me, this means more business and more opportunities to help our communities transition to energy-efficient upgrades.”

“I’m excited that IRA homeowner benefits provide the opportunity for a triple win—healthier homes, long-term energy savings and less climate pollution,” said Citizens Climate Lobby NV State Coordinator, Dr. Joanne Leovy. “Upgraded energy-efficient, all-electric homes are a great prescription for Nevada’s families.”

“The Inflation Reduction Act has been a game-changer for Nevadans, empowering families across our state to take control of their energy costs, improve their homes, and contribute to a cleaner environment,” said Nevada Conservation League Executive Director, Kristee Watson. “By going door to door and reaching over 25,000 residents, we’ve seen firsthand how eager Nevadans are to embrace these opportunities. The IRA isn’t just about savings—it’s about equity, economic growth, and ensuring that every Nevadan, regardless of their income or zip code, can be a part of our clean energy future.”

“The Biden-Harris clean energy plan investments are creating pathways to ensure that Nevadans can benefit from clean energy —and we’ve already been able to cut climate pollution, create thousands of good-paying clean energy jobs, and advance environmental justice. In just 2023, the clean energy plan has helped Nevadans save over $151 million on their energy bills through tax credits and lowers upfront costs for adopting clean energy technologies,” said Tiffany Hsieh, Nevada State Desk for Climate Power. “Everyone should have access to clean energy opportunities, such as renewable energy, energy efficiency, electric vehicles, energy storage, and clean energy jobs.”
