Trump’s Assault on Clean Energy Investments Threatens Nevada’s Future

White House actions endanger thousands of clean energy jobs, cost-saving programs, and public health protections.

LAS VEGAS — Today, the White House stated that a federal funding cut remains in effect, despite rescinding an irresponsible memo ordering the action. This comes after Trump signed a series of executive orders last week, continuing to target clean energy investments, directly threatening programs that lower energy bills, create good-paying jobs, and protect Nevada’s air and water. Trump’s agenda leaves over 21,000 clean energy jobs, $15.5 billion in investment, cost-saving energy programs, public health protections, and critical infrastructure projects at risk. Nevadans will feel these impacts — in their wallets, their homes, their jobs, and their neighborhoods.

Just days ago, Trump visited Las Vegas and claimed to stand with hard-working Nevadans. Behind the scenes, his administration moved to gut essential services that help families save money and put food on the table. Trump’s policies are actively undermining energy assistance programs, disaster relief, community solar projects, clean energy tax investments, and more

With federal funding making up over 37% of Nevada’s budget, these cuts would devastate local governments, court systems, and local nonprofits that rely on these resources.

Environmental advocates warn that Trump’s latest actions put Nevada’s clean energy progress and public health at risk. Advocates are calling on Governor Lombardo and Nevada’s congressional delegation to take immediate action to safeguard these investments and push back against Trump’s dangerous attempt to strip away resources critical to families.

Gariety Pruitt, Nevada State Director at For Our Future Action Fund:

“The Trump Administration’s attempt to freeze critical federal funds is a direct attack on programs that Nevadans rely on to survive and to build a sustainable future. Halting these funds jeopardizes initiatives that support clean energy development and thousands of good-paying jobs for Nevadans.

“Despite Trump’s emphatic campaign promises to distance himself from the extreme proposals outlined in Project 2025, these cuts prove he will continue to choose MAGA ideology and his billionaire buddies over the economic well-being of Nevada’s working families.

“Nevadans need leaders who put people over politics, and we applaud Attorney General Aaron Ford’s swift response in challenging Trump’s recklessness. We urge Governor Lombardo and all members of our federal delegation to unequivocally denounce this power grab and stand up for the economic security of our state and our working families. Clean air, good jobs, and affordable utility bills should not be partisan issues.”

Lori Lodes, Executive Director, Climate Power:

“Donald Trump is doing what he does best: sowing chaos without caring about how people will be hurt. The chief architect of Trump’s cruel strategy is Russell Vought. Trump’s illegal defunding of critical investments threw Americans’ health care, energy bills, disaster relief, and so much more into jeopardy. This is straight out of Trump and Vought’s Project 2025 playbook, which Trump repeatedly swore off during the campaign.

“Heating your home in the winter, getting the medical care you need, and support from the federal government when disasters like the LA wildfires strike are not bargaining chips. Vought must unequivocally promise that he will not try to hijack Congress’ power of the purse at the American people’s expense.”

Kristee Watson, Executive Director, Nevada Conservation League:

“Nevada led the nation in securing federal funding for clean energy, creating over 21,000 new jobs and attracting more than $15.5 billion in private investment. These funds also support critical water infrastructure projects, including conservation efforts and clean drinking water for tribal communities. Nevadans are counting on these investments to expand clean energy jobs, protect against extreme weather, and ensure reliable water resources.

“But by targeting programs like Solar For All and Home Energy Rebates, Trump’s actions mean higher energy costs and fewer opportunities for Nevada families. Whether it’s ending clean energy tax investments or slashing environmental programs, the goal is the same: Giving away our hard-earned tax dollars to ultra-wealthy elites.

“We urge Governor Lombardo, our congressional delegation, and leaders at every level, no matter the political party, to work together to safeguard these life-changing dollars.”

Audrey Peral, Program Director, Chispa Nevada:

“This is an intentional attack on all Nevadans, removing lifesaving medical, food and environmental programs. Trump is cutting programs that lower household bills, clean up our air and water, and create and maintain hundreds of thousands of jobs that rely on federal funding. Latine families, like many Nevadans, are already struggling, and now these cuts will make it harder to pay their bills and provide for their children. It’s clear the Trump administration does not care about helping our communities. We urgently call on our elected leaders to pressure the Trump administration to protect these funds, not just temporarily but permanently. Nevadans’ lives depend on it.”

Eric Jeng, Executive Director, One APIA Nevada:

“Halting federal funding in the pursuit of political theater is an exploitative act and a disservice to all Nevadans across the state who rely on federal assistance to improve their quality of life, especially for communities of color.

“The environmental crises we’re currently facing will exponentially worsen without decisive, systemic solutions against climate change. Clean energy investments don’t just exist for the sole purpose of environmental sustainability. As part of the Inflation Reduction Act, they expanded good-paying job opportunities for millions of people, increasing upward mobility. The intersectionality of these issues cannot be dismissed, and changes in this sector will create a disastrous rift across the board.”

Kevin Moran, Associate Vice President of Regional Affairs for the Southwest Region, Environmental Defense Fund:

“Nevada is a leader in providing choice for people when it comes to powering homes and cars, and this choice has transformed the state economy for the better with good paying clean energy jobs. We want to see wages go up and costs go down, and Solar for All and Home Energy Rebates are key components of achieving this objective. We urge electeds across the state to help preserve good paying jobs, lower costs, and more choice for Nevadans.”
