Trump promised to lower costs.
Instead, his attacks on clean energy are raising power bills, stalling job growth, and putting Nevada’s future at risk.
LAS VEGAS — President Trump delivered his first address to Congress, providing updates on immigration, tariffs, energy, and even DOGE — asserting his policies are bringing relief to families. Meanwhile, his administration continues to jeopardize federal clean energy investments that have lowered costs for families, created over 21,000 new jobs, and spurred $15.5 billion in private investment in Nevada. Just 43 days into his term, clean energy advocates are warning that his policies are undermining Nevada’s clean energy economy, threatening higher power bills, and forcing layoffs of critical federal workers responsible for safeguarding water resources, protecting public lands, and protecting communities from wildfires.
Despite promising to reduce costs for families, Trump’s aggressive moves to cut federal programs are making it harder for Nevadans to afford basic necessities by attacking programs designed to lower energy bills, including federal tax credits and state energy rebates for solar panels, heat pumps, weatherization upgrades, and more.
A new analysis reveals that more than 42,000 planned clean energy jobs have been lost or stalled since Trump’s election, including 5,000 in Nevada. At the same time, electricity prices are projected to reach their highest levels since the 1990s, straining household budgets even further.
Gariety Pruitt, Nevada State Director at For Our Future Action Fund, issued the following statement:
“Donald Trump’s address to Congress underscores a reckless agenda that prioritizes polluters and the ultra-rich at the expense of working families. His blatant disregard for the threat of climate change and his efforts to terminate clean energy investments under the false pretense of lowering energy costs represent an attack on the health and livelihoods of thousands of Nevada families.
“Nevada has emerged as a national leader in clean energy, creating thousands of good-paying jobs with even greater potential for growth by 2030. Yet, with Trump’s continued assault on this booming sector, Nevadans will face higher energy bills, fewer job opportunities, worsening pollution, and preventable health risks—all while billionaires line their pockets.
“Nevadans can see through the lies Trump is telling to justify his pro-polluter agenda. We cannot let him and his cronies jeopardize a cleaner, healthier, and more prosperous future for Nevada’s working families.”
Mathilda Guerrero Miller, Government Relations Director of Native Voters Alliance Nevada, issued the following statement:
“President Trump’s disastrous agenda is driving up energy costs, killing clean energy jobs, and putting Nevada’s future at risk. Instead of lowering bills for families, he’s making it harder to afford basic necessities–all while handing out favors to fossil fuel CEOs. Nevada has worked hard to build a clean energy economy that creates good-paying jobs and keeps utility costs down. But Trump’s attack on federal investments threatens to stall progress, forcing workers into uncertainty and stripping communities of the resources they need to thrive. Nevadans deserve leaders who put their well-being first, not Washington bureaucrats who cater to corporate polluters at our expense. We’re not backing down. We’ll continue fighting for Nevada’s clean energy future and the families who depend on it.”
Mary Wagner, Nevada Field Organizer for Moms Clean Air Force, issued the following statement:
“Scaling back clean energy investments will directly impact families struggling with high energy costs and communities suffering from disproportionate levels of pollution. At Moms Clean Air Force, we are working tirelessly to ensure these critical investments flow into intended communities. Instead of prioritizing corporate profits, we must defend these investments that lower utility bills, create healthier neighborhoods, and ensure our children breathe clean air. We need leadership that fights for affordable, sustainable energy—not policies that keep us dependent on polluting industries.”
Kristee Watson, Executive Director of Nevada Conservation League, issued the following statement:
“Hardworking families are already struggling with rising costs, and Trump’s reckless policies are making things worse. In just 43 days, he has recklessly undermined clean energy investments that lowered energy bills and threatened thousands of clean energy jobs at a time when Nevada’s unemployment rate is the highest in the nation. With a new trade war, he’s driving prices even higher — including what families pay to keep the lights on.
“Despite what he claimed in his address to Congress tonight, Nevadans know the truth. His policies don’t support working families; they prioritize polluters and fossil fuel executives at the expense of everyday Nevadans. These rollbacks jeopardize our clean energy economy, push our communities further into financial hardship, and leave Nevada more vulnerable to extreme heat and drought. That’s not leadership — it’s sabotage. Now more than ever, our members of Congress must stand up to his destructive agenda and stand up for working families.”
Tiffany Hsieh, Western States Hub Director for Climate Power, issued the following statement:
“America is losing nearly a thousand jobs a day because of Trump’s war against cheaper, faster, and cleaner energy. Here in Nevada, over 5,000 clean energy jobs have already been lost or put on the chopping block. Congressional Republicans have a choice: get in line with Trump’s job-killing energy agenda or take a stand to protect jobs and lower costs for Nevada’s families.”
Eric Jeng, Executive Director of One APIA Nevada, issued the following statement:
“Cutting back on clean energy investments, eliminating good-paying jobs, and fueling pollution is a direct hit to Nevada’s future. Instead of lowering costs and protecting our environment, Trump’s agenda makes it harder for Nevadans to withstand the upcoming hardships, not just financially but also physically, as we brace for another year of extreme heat and worsening drought. The rising energy costs and decreased economic opportunities, compounded by his reckless policies, will leave hardworking families, including Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander communities, struggling to afford necessities and stay safe in a state already feeling the effects of climate change. We need progressive action for a cleaner, more affordable future—not policies that put profit first while families pay the price.”
Audrey Peral, Chispa Nevada Program Director, issued the following statement:
“In the month since President Trump took office, Nevada Latines are doing worse by nearly every measure: groceries, utility bills and inflation are higher; we’re losing thousands of well-paying jobs, especially in our state’s clean energy economy; and immigrant families are living in constant fear of being ripped apart.
“Trump’s corporate allies are attacking critical programs and agencies that fund our schools and keep polluters in check. And now President Trump wants Congress to trade clean energy, cleaner air and climate progress for a blank check to ICE and tax cuts for billionaires.
“Enough is enough. We need Congress to stand up to Trump and fight to protect their constituents, our families, from this devastating agenda. As we work to keep our communities safe, Latines throughout Nevada are counting on leaders who will have our backs.”
Through the Inflation Reduction Act and the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, Nevada secured $4.4 billion in federal funds. These allocations include:
$3.6 billion for clean transit and infrastructure, enhancing public transportation, and reducing emissions.
$513 million for renewable energy and energy efficiency programs, helping businesses and homeowners lower costs and increase sustainability.
$214 million for conserving natural resources, improving air and water quality.
$67 million for rural energy and sustainability, ensuring energy access and job creation in remote communities.
$14 million for land and water conservation, preserving Nevada’s natural resources.
